LIVE REVIEW: The Snuts at Luxor, Cologne

Indie-quartet, The Snuts made their Cologne return with a bang on the 18th July 2026, playing tunes both new and old, in anticipation of their upcoming album ‘Joy in short moments’ scheduled for release on October 23rd2026.
Prior to doors opening, a queue of keen fans lined the outskirts of the venue (Luxor), a 500 capacity venue right in the heart of Cologne. Plenty of merch was seen, cementing The Snuts as much loved, despite the fact they were overseas, far from their home: Glasgow, Scotland.
As the crowd shuffled in, grabbed their drinks and found the ideal place for the show, The Rooks made their way onto the stage. With similar roots to The Snuts, The Rooks met through secondary school, and have since became one of Scotland’s best up and coming bands, even setting the record for the most attendance at the BBC introducing stage at TRNSMT 2025, with 2500 people attending their set (impressive as they were the only independent band on the bill).
The Rooks well and truly warmed up the crowd, with an unforgettable indie sound and an awe-inspiring stage presence, it is safe to say they certainly gained a few German fans. What stood out for me, was their unreleased song ‘Open Wide’ which begins slow yet becomes intense, very quickly, I’d describe it as the perfect soundtrack for a boxing scene out of a film.
Finishing with their biggest song: ‘Lay me down’, lead singer: Ross threw his arms up and thanked the crowd for their support throughout the set, leaving fans stood in anticipation for The Snuts to make their entrance onto the stage.
After a short gap, the music stopped and The Snuts walked onto stage, opening the set with fan-favourite: Gloria. Like a choir, the eager German crowd sung along, even to the guitar riff, certainly a sight to see and a delight to hear.
In my opinion the setlist was a perfect mix of new and old songs including: Glasgow, Always, All your Friends, Seasons and more. However true highlights for me were tunes from their upcoming album: ‘Joy in short moments’, which takes a more pop approach to their indie-sound. The first song on the album (which is yet to be released), In Motion, even got its live debut, and its safe to say the fans enjoyed it.
Another highlight for me was not the music, but Jack, the lead singer constantly cracking jokes between songs, providing a perfect mix of comedy and good music, simply just improving the overall atmosphere of the gig. This was significant for me as I’d never been to a gig abroad and compared to the UK, European crowds are a lot politer.
After an encore (which the band claimed they found it cringey doing), the band finished up their set with Hallelujah Moment and their most famous song: Always. Overall, it was truly a night to be remembered and the setlist was flawless, as not one fan-favourite was dropped from the setlist but the band also displayed their new music, giving fans a glimpse of what is to come in October.
