New Single ‘The Line’ by Red Remedy
This raw, grunge inspired track by Sunderland band, Red Remedy, is set to release June 17, 2026.
Ahead of its release, I spoke to the band about the inspiration for the number, and which songs from their own playlists influenced its creation.
Lead guitarist, Zach Barlow, stated his main influences were ‘Screaming’ by Loathe and ‘Here’s the Thing’ by Fontaines DC. ‘The crushing weight in ‘Screaming’ was a big inspiration for the guitar tone and overall feeling that I wanted to create in the track’.
The band say that the inception for ‘The Line’ occurred on the road with Villanelle in December 2025, while listening to a lot of shoegaze bands such as Slowdive, My Bloody Valentine and the ‘Bends’ era of Radiohead.
‘The main sliding riff, which is featured in the chorus and breakdown, was sparked by listening to the intro of ‘Here’s the Thing’ by Fontaines DC.’
Rhythm guitarist, Dean Welsh, said that even though Zach had written most of the guitars in the song, the overall vibes in ‘Varsity Hearts’ by Thornhill really inspired his playing when recording the track in the studio.
‘Recording this new track was such an exciting experience. Exploring a fresh sound and hearing it come to life has been amazing, I’m just so proud of how it’s turned out’.
Red Remedy's bassist, Bailey Kettel, sees ‘The Line’ as a track that stands alone without following the crowd, and isn't influenced by certain artists. While ‘Miracle’ by Paramore was his closest comparison, he believes the song is a unique body of work.
Their drummer, Liam Robson, only joined the band in March 2026 and missed the initial writing and recording process of the song. However, since joining Red Remedy, Liam states, ‘We’ll Always Have Paris’ by Capstan has inspired his playing the past few weeks with its energetic chorus and gritty breakdown.
Finally, lead vocalist, Syren Jensen says; ‘I wrote the lyrics to the song based off a situation with a person in my life. I listened to artists that inspire me vocally, to see if they’ve written anything similar to how I wanted to display those emotions. Particularly, VUKOVI, Paramore, YONAKA, Stand Atlantic and Sweet Pill.’
With a range of prominent tracks inspiring the band, some of the biggest influences include; ‘Wander’ by VUKOVI, ‘Blood clot’ by Stand Atlantic and ‘Turn It Off’ by Paramore.
Red Remedy also have a mini tour in August 2026, headlining London, Manchester and Sunderland. As well as supporting SUMO CYCO at Think Tank in Newcastle on July 4.
