Central Arcade return with new single ‘Cane’ following their previous release ‘Hero.’

Released today as part of their upcoming EP, the Newcastle based band are making waves in the UK alt-rock scene. With a spring tour spanning from their hometown of Newcastle across the water to Dublin, Central Arcade portray a clear initiative to hit all perspectives with their music. The bands unique songwriting and cascading instrumental backing creates an incomparable persona as a collective.

Going down a pathway of edgy, grunge style, ‘Cane’ centralises on the idea of liberty specifically through homage of the honourable impact of influential Irish figure, Sean MacDiarmada who resurrected Irelands honour by blueprinting Irelands claim to independence. Later, MacDiamarda was physically weakened with polio, causing him to ‘walk with a cane’ and brutally murdered by British military who relentlessly mocked him in attempt to disregard his legacy, ‘stamp out my name.’

The message driven single, differentiates from previous songs in their own words, Musically, it is heavily inspired by ‘Alice in Chains,’ we went for a real grunge vibe but also put delay on tails and and samples onto the drums too.

Individually, all elements of ‘Cane’ from the fluid guitar solo to the stabilising bass and drums, the band viscerally combine all elements to provide the forefront for the resonant vocals. Diving deeper, heard in the riffs, the band accumulated sampled clips from JFK, a speech on Ireland and his heritage. Significantly driving the impactful message of liberty and legacy.

Facing an immense applause pre-release supporting ‘Pentire’ In Newcastle, the single clearly interprets in many ways and the unparalleled force the group have live amplifies their originality, both musically and expressively.
