Michael Gallaghers “Home” is an American influenced indie rock song conveying a love letter to his hometown and to the people who have made it special for him.
When listening to this song I was instantly hooked by the lyric “And I’ll spend the night dreaming of the place that I left behind” as it shows the feeling of homesickness and the separation that’s born out of the emotional experience of moving away from familiar surroundings into someplace new and daunting.
The song is designed as a personal reflection on roots of comfort and the lasting impact of someone's hometown put into an emotionally calming and breezy song. Filled with acoustic guitar and drums that make it sound more like a story being told about a past life rather than a song about a hometown.
